The move to Namirembe Road, 1980

By Apollo Wambua · Class of 1979–1982

1980 marked a major turning point for Kampala Parents' School. That year, the school relocated to new premises on Namirembe Road, adjacent to Pride Theatre.

Before Kampala Parents' School occupied the premises, they had been used by the Africa Foundation, an NGO that catered to orphaned children and was run by Rev. Kefa Sempangi, a prominent UPC stalwart. The property itself belonged to the Departed Asians Custodian Board.

Following the departure of many Asians from Uganda, the premises had temporarily been used by the Uganda Army as a sports center. However, after the Uganda Army's defeat in the Liberation War, the premises became vacant. Mr. Kasole then approached the government for permission to occupy and use the property for the school.

In January 1980, Kampala Parents' School officially moved to the new premises. Around the same time, Mrs. Gladys Wambuzi joined the school as the new Primary Five class teacher, while Sabatiiti served as head prefect.

The entire school, from Primary One to Primary Seven, relocated to the site. The premises featured the impressive double-storied Halidas Kalidas Memorial Hall, tennis courts, spacious assembly grounds, dining facilities, and large playgrounds. The campus also provided accommodation for some teachers, including Mr. Kasole and Mr. Kityo.
