The Handkerchief Wave
By Christine Semugooma · Class of 1994
Mr. Kasole was a neat man. This neatness and cleanliness cascaded into all that was connected to Kampala Parents' School. The small entry gate at 7am each morning had a teacher on duty welcoming the pupils and allowing entry to only those that had a clean handkerchief, that you had to wave to come in. It was not rare for some of us to get stuck at the entry gate because we did not have the white handkerchief. The 5 of us from home were denied entry and had our mom or dad relinquish their handkerchief because one of us had forgotten. Their slight annoyance at this was superseded by their knowledge of how strict the handkerchief rule was. This habit prevailed in many I believe long after we left our KPS. Thank you Mr Kasole.
